Lyrics and Why: Painter's Melody

Writing the lyrics to Painter’s Melody was a lot different than I normally write lyrics. I usually base lyrics on situations I or someone else has gone through, but this song was written based solely on an intimate stare-off with a painting. I tend to let my mind run wild sometimes. One day, I decided to make a spontaneous trip to see Eric Tonzola, Silver Lights’ Graphic Designer. I was checking out his new work when this thought came across my mind, “I wonder how it feels to be born into a life on display? How does it feel to have someone create you from the product of their imagination, fall in love with that person, and be left on a wall to be recognized the everyone but your creator?” I know that’s a strange place to go from one look at a painting, but occasionally, I get too deep for my own good. It also leads to lyrics like these. . .

What a sweet catastrophe

To soothe me with your melodies

But not enough for me to sleep

Just enough to make me feel at ease

With your psychedelic trance

Makes me feel like I can dance

And that always puts me in the happiest moods

It has me thinking before the clock strikes noon

By midnight I would like to learn something

Before the fairy turns me back into a pumpkin

You are an artist

I am a portrait

Gave me the darkest landscapes

Painted me as a fortress

How could you be so proud of me

To hang me up inside a gallery

When lights come on I want to hide

When the colors run so do I

You should Have put me in a room where no photos were taken

But now I’m terrified

I must be camera shy

What a sweet catastrophe

To soothe me with your melodies

But not enough for me to sleep

Just enough to make me feel at ease

With your psychedelic trance

Makes me feel like I can dance

Turn my filthy heart to stone

You cleared my mind but damned my soul

I have one thing to say about you

I don't want to leave you confused

You have the darkest heart

And I’m a monster that’s been missing that part

Piecing this puzzle together’s been an art

Let’s be a painting of creatures left in the dark

What a sweet catastrophe

To soothe me with your melodies

With your psychedelic trance

Makes me feel like I can dance

Like what a sweet catastrophe

To soothe me with your melodies

But not enough for me to sleep

Just enough to make me feel at ease

With your psychedelic trance

Make me feel like I can dance

Turn my filthy heart to stone

Cleared my mind but damned my soul

This song is about a portrait falling in love with the artist who created it. We wrote an EP called Salagia about The Seven Deadly Sins. The music perfectly represents our sin of (insert sin here). The portrait is unable to stop the foreboding love nor wants to. The never-ending craving the portrait has to be viewed by the artist leaves the portrait with no concern for what happens to it. I believe there is an extensive line between definitions of each sin and choose to leave it up to the listener to find out which sin is which in the EP.
