Artist Run Down!
There are so many bands and artists creating amazing music right now, but it’s difficult to comb through it all! There are thousands of new artists every year that are merging genres, experimenting with concepts, and bringing nostalgic influences back. I personally cannot stick to just one sound or artist for too long because of all the new age music. I listen to a new artist every day, analyze what makes this artist so unique, and try to spread the word about their beautiful work. For this reason, every week or so, I want to discuss three artists that influence the way I look at music. Whether the artist is newer, older, or somewhere in the middle, I want to make music lovers everywhere of these wonderful artists! With every “ Artist Run-Down,” post I create, I will have an updated Spotify playlist link with all the innovative music I’ve been listening to within their genre. Let’s get started!
TELLTALE, Virginia USA (POP/ PUNK)
TELLTALE is an innovative band from Richmond, Virginia. They manage to create a sound that crosses genres, a unique and original sound, and the most consumable structure in every song. Their single, “What a shame,” Was the first song that I had the pleasure of listening to and I’ve been hooked ever since. It’s hard to describe their catchy, alternative Pop-Punk, and Indie sound with words. Any upcoming artists in the Pop-Punk scene should keep an eye on this band. Not only is the music unique and consumable, but they’ve managed to carry their momentum since their first release in 2017. Every growing artist knows the struggles of getting their music out there, so keeping and I on a band with almost 87,000 monthly listeners on Spotify that's only been around for 5 years might be the key to their success. Check out their latest release, Lie Your Way Out!

BRAKENCE, OHIO USA (PUNK/ MELODIC-EMO RAP)
Brakence is a mind-blowing Punkish Emo-Rapper that has changed the way I look at emo-rap. I’m going to be honest, with emo-rap becoming a big thing, I was very hesitant to really start listening. It felt like a cheesy dumbed-down version of trap-rap that really isn’t my thing. While I was studying video editing and researching youtube channels for insight, I came across Overcast’s channel. That’s where I found Brakence’s single, Dropout. That was when I fell in love with Emo- Rap. With his saturated and distorted instrumental, his catchy Math-Rock structure, and his heartfelt melodic vocals, it’s hard not to love it. Even with a brief hiatus, Brakence continues to soar with success with over 795,000 monthly listeners on his Spotify. Check out my favorite Brakence song, Argyle!

IN HER OWN WORDS, CALIFORNIA (POP-PUNK)
In Her Own Words (IHOW) is a Progressive Pop-Punk band that I’ve followed since their first EP, East & West. I may be biased since my musical Project, Silver Lights is named after a song on their 2015 EP, Bad Weather. This band inspires me with their emotionally driven lyrics, progressive storytelling, and overall consumable sound. With every release, their growth as musicians and their following is nothing, but exponential! Joey Fleming, IHOW’s vocalist, Not only excels in his popular Pop-Punk band but has developed a substantially fast-growing audience with his solo artist career. He’s worked and featured on several other Pop-Punk band’s releases, including Silver Lights’ single Analla, helping other smaller groups reach new heights. This May, IHOW is planning to release their 3rd full-length album Distance A Decay which has already promised to be one of their best albums. With singles like Raining In Toronto, Lights Out and Leaving Forever, we can expect a heavier Pop-Punk instrumentation style and with even catchier hooks! Check out their newer songs and their older songs on their Spotify!
