Lyrics And Why: The Unknown
So, as I said in the last blog update, I would like to start sharing my writing process when it comes to lyrics and melodies. My way of thinking is more abstract than the average joe. I am constantly looking at strangers and imagining what their lives have been like, what they plan to do next, and why. This inspires me to write new lyrics and melodies, but it also helps me understand people better. Let's start with the latest writing I've done named The Uknown.
"The Unkown"
It seems that the unknown
Loves to take control
I do the best with what I got
But what if that is not enough
Not I'm second-guessing
And I'm overthinking
Because I know that I'm prone to bad luck
But I keep my head held high
As I boast to the sky
Hoping that it missed my luck
Why is it that I always focus on the negative
Is it the fear of losing what I have
Not knowing if I can get it back
Or the fear I lost all control
The life that I lead is not mine to hold
I was inspired to write this piece from one of my classmate's blogs. I was curious to see what everyone was going to be writing about, so I checked out every blog. I came across this one blog called, Raising The Curtains by T. Smith. It blew me away with how real and open she is on her blog. Every post adherence to well-written stories about obstacles she has faced in her life. Her post, The Unknown, really stood out to me, but not necessarily because I could relate. She talks about how she traversed the unknown and sees her fear of it as a growing experience in the post. I find this interesting because I face the unknown with an opposing view. I am terrified that my life will become simple and predictable. It's hard to explain, but the fear of waking up every day without an abundance of challenges waiting for me is what I dread most. The difference in how we look at the unknown led me to try and empathize with her writing in my own form.
Empathizing with someone else's point of view is one of the keys to finding inspiration to write new poetry and lyrics. If you only focus on how you see the world, you limit your creative thinking and eventually run into writer's block.
